Grading/Slabbing AGE's?
I've never had any coins graded/slabbed before. I really don't collect numismatics for the most part, usually just bullion. However, I've got a handful of 2009 AGE's, some 1oz, some 1/4oz, and some 1/10oz. Are any of these actually worth the bother to send off and be slabbed/graded?
I think the look of a slabbed/graded coin is pretty neat looking but I don't want to waste my time/money if it's just completely pointless in terms of value and not adding anything to the coin. Any thoughts? |
Re: Grading/Slabbing AGE's?
Which is better for Ford or Chevy???
You never get just one yes or no answer on this... A few folks will tell you, your a a knuclehead for paying to have someone grade it, then the others will tell you your a knuclehead for not.... As a coin collecter I've bought several slabbed coins, but I don't think I'd ever pay to send any off and have one done, unless it was something semi-rare and I thought it would really help in the resale years down the road... If you can buy on slabbed for not much less than you can buy it raw, I don't think it can hurt either... Also, really depends on what your goals are... Everyone here, OK ""most"" people here buy AU and AG, as insurance for if/when the Dollar tanks, not to sell it out right and take profit... There there are some that are into both... I buy AU and AG for several reasons... 1. I really like it.... Ohhh So Shiney and ringy when you cinky... (nad rhyme I know) 2. Insurance in case the dollar would tank... Not exaclty sure how it would work, hope to not find out. 3. I do Speculate a bit, I buy in the bigger Dips and hold, after retirment I may sell some on spikes if I need/want too... Rather pass it on to the kid... 4. I do collect some for Numismatic purpose as a hobby, it would be nice if I was able to profit if I go to sell it... Althought the my fatal flaw to all this is, I'm somewhat of a, well I don't want to say Hoarder, but I hate to sell anything I felt was worth buying in the 1st place.... |
Re: Grading/Slabbing AGE's?
For bullion the only reason I can see doing it is as some sort of assay on the gold. Maybe it's not as important for a AGE, but for something like a Panda, it probably improves the resale value. It's probably required if you ever want to get a good price by selling on the internet.

Re: Grading/Slabbing AGE's?
That brings up a good point... Wouldn't the acid test to prove its real gold bring the grade down if someone was to grade one?
I mean you are not even supposed to clean'em... Or they'll mark'em as such.. |
Re: Grading/Slabbing AGE's?
The only times I've submitted GAE(Proofs&Special Unc sets) was when they came from the US Mint.Since there was no "middleman" to pick over possible 70's it was worth it.$$$$...Really not worth it, if all you get are 69's.
